A Clinical Analysis of Extradural Hematoma

Abstract
The relationship between clinical features and surgical result has been analyzed in 96 patients of extradural hematoma that authors had experienced for recent 4 years. The following results were obtained.
1. The mortality rate of this series was 26%.
2. There was a tendency to be increased mortality rate in the age group over 40 year old.
3. The result of operation was more grave in the cases that neurological signs due to extradural hematoma developed more rapidly.
4. The mortality rate was increased as the consciousness at time of operation was more severely disturbed.
5. The mortality rate of extradural hematoma associated with intradural lesions was 3 times higher than that of extradural hematoma only.
6. Extradural hematoma located in the temporal lobe exerted poor effect on surgical result.
7. It was thought that morbidity and mortality rate of extradural hematoma caused by arterial bleeding could be decreased by early surgical intervention.
